Review of Almost Famous (2000) by Rob R — 07 Jan 2011
It's been a few years since I last saw this and maybe I'm getting a little cynical in my old age but a lot of it felt like too much of a classic rock wankytale. Fair play if Cameron Crowe got offered a 3-girl foursome with which to lose his virginity (and possibly turned it down) but these are instances where poetic licence appear to take too much control.
But whatever, I still really like this film and it was a thoroughly enjoyable couple of hours - again. The special features had Jenn Wenner in them, who I've read a lot about in a Hunter Thompson's correspondance volume.
Zooey Deschanel looks pretty rough - a) she's younger than me b) this was made more than 10 years ago - and she looks positively middle aged. But I guess in reality it's all sorted itself out, ching ching. Meanwhile, fair play to Kate Hudson who really is quite a scene stealer. Has Frances McDormand ever been in a bad film? Oh, she's in the new Transformers one.
