I'll be terse: the acting was very marginal in this film, period. But for Crowe, this semi-autobiographical project is more about the surreality of being a toddler in a big boy's game; it's about the music (OST is tear-worthy); it's about the lust; and it's about the nomad lifestyle of rock stars.
The events and subplots don't really accumulate into something substantial by the end, they're just occurrences, that's it. OK, so the kid re-befriends (for real this time) with the rocker at the conclusion, what gives? Watch this flick to enjoy, dream, and lose yourself in the tunes and "culture" that is attached; don't watch this for a game-changer, it ain't.
