Review of Almost Famous (2000) by Gabriel D — 16 Jun 2014
It might seem cliche but it is the little things that make the film wonderful. From the frequent saying "It's all happening" to emotionless glare of William Miller, the film captures a perfect coming of age story which every one should watch.
Cameron Crowe did an amazing job putting this witty and clever script and fun story together. The film is based on his life as it captures a 15 year old gifted writer who goes along with rising rock band.
Along that journey, he deals with the ideas of loving rock music not endorsing the system, love, temptations, and what makes life life. Each character you grow to love and what makes the film good is the vulnerability of the young mind of William Miller.
You can feel for him as he grasps the reality of the world of rock stars and the media's dilemma. Characters like Penny Lane, Russell Hammond and Jeff Bebe made the film colorful and you would end up falling in love with them as they go on their tour across America.
Small stuff like having Lester Bangs and Ben Fong-Torres just seals the deal. Even though the word is overused in my ratings but this film makes you feel warm and questions yourself whether you're living the life you want or the life that is made for you.
I love those type of films. In the end, I LOVE this film and recommend this to everyone. It's the perfect coming of age story and it'll make you appreciate music as it is... especially when we have Tiny Dancer in our head.
