Review of Almost Famous (2000) by Louis M — 23 Dec 2010
The very definition of a "bittersweet" movie. I have been wanting to see this one for a while, and when my dad taped it, I was really excited, but also really nervous that it wouldn't live up to my expectations. However, it definitely did.
Cameron Crowe does a great job of translating his real-life experiences of being a writer for "Rolling Stone" on film. The cast is great, the script is tight, and Stillwater is a damn good band. The soundtrack is very, very good, but I personally enjoyed the soundtrack to "Lords Of Dogtown" more; call it my personal taste, but this one was still good.
The reason that I am rating this so high is how it affected me after I saw it. As soon as it ended, I thought, "OK, that was pretty good. Not great, but good." But then, about 10-15 minutes later, I started thinking about the ending again. And about the music, and the story, and the characters, and I realized that this film a huge impact on me. It showed me the power music has to change people's lives in several different ways and how the choices we make and the relationships we have effect everybody around us.
Highly recommended to everyone, especially a music lover or lover of great films.
