Review of Almost Famous (2000) by Pascal V — 14 May 2012
In this delicious film, Cameron Crowe portrays the seventies, by following William Miller, a very young reporter going on tour with the band Stillwater. We see his concerned mother, the groupies following the band and the tensions amongst the band members.
Admittedly, it's all rather feel-good; when bad things happen, they're never really that bad.
The acting is magnificent all around. Jason Lee, after playing a smooth devil in a white suite in Dogma, now plays a very convincing band leader. Of the others, I thought especially Patrick Fugit as the young journalist, Kate Hudson as "Penny Lane" and Philip Seymour Hoffman as the notorious Lester Bangs were very good.
Great stuff, and a great soundtrack too, with the original Stillwater-songs by (amongst others) Peter Frampton.
