Review of Allure (2018) by Duke_Keagan — 08 Jul 2018
::Spoilers...of a sort::
Interesting movie. Almost. Several storylines going on. Eva and her relationship with her mother. Kind of just ended. Laura and Eva's relationship, with each girls individual story intertwined throughout. Both left unanswered. Laura's fathers story was wrapped up. I knew from his first appearance he and Laura had a past. Laying his story down without any details was interesting to me. I think it was pretty clear to any viewer though.
The ending was...odd at best. I didn't understand the swimming pool scene at all. I got the juxtaposition (right word?) between Eva sinking in the pool and how she felt she was drowning in her life. I dont get why she suddenly left and ran away in such a panic. Never knowing what happened to her left me rather disappointed. With Eva gone, Laura realised she was alone. (I sure know that feeling) Watching Laura's life spiral out of control I figured she would end her life. While she didn't, her ending seemed to imply the act.
Anyway...I found I was caught up in the rolling plot, certainly not on the edge of my seat by any means. If you like to look into the deeper aspects of a film this is a good movie to watch. The director and the writers did a good job in how they laid down the plot devices.
If you are looking for suspense, or action, or something more ...visual. This isn't the movie for you.
