Review of Allied (2016) by Ryan F — 27 Nov 2016
A masterful play on the watcher's emotion. But in the end you feel it was completely superficial and probably made just for the sake of playing on emotions. Even though the emotions were severe. And not pleasant, I have to say.
About 15 minutes into the movie, I said it was probably a horror film - this was the kind of emotion it caused. Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard play really well, everyting is done perfectly, but you cannot relate to their characters.
Why do they decide to marry each other? Why would they have a kid? No idea. And yet, I cried and cried, and even more so in the end. And then I thought - maybe what Zemeckis says with this film is that it's too easy to cause us to feel emotions? This movie is not about its characters or story or wartime - it might be about us as viewers? Bitter, unpleasant, but a bit weak and not convincing in this case.
