Review of Allied (2016) by Jess B — 11 Dec 2016
The story was trite. Lizzy Caplan's character was completely unnecessary to the story--it appears a sister for Max was written into the story only so that Hollywood could (once again) rewrite history by making Lizzy's character a lesbian openly in public (at a party).
This would have been totally unacceptable in 1943 London, period. So why was she in the story? I think that originally, Lizzy's character was supposed to be the German spy but the producer decided they didn't want to make a lesbian the villain (sends the wrong message, you see?) so they let it be Max's wife (spoiler alert).
Trite, ineffective, certainly not worth the money to go see this film. I pay for a movie to be entertained, not propagandized. I can watch CNN for that, for no extra money.
