A war time tale that seemed to sparkle and engage at first but the ending smelt of the original being re-written after a test screening.
Pitt and Cotillard were superb at the start as husband and wife, yet the ending of the film left both flondering with a script that seemed so out of kilter with the preceding story.
Surely Hollywood can make a gritty war drama where everything doesn't have to end with everything tied with a neat ribbon?
