Review of Allied (2016) by Stu M — 28 May 2017
Allied (2016) is one of those movies that can either be a great hit for you, or make you sorry you ever watched, depending on to which group you belong; normal or Hollywood/movie elite.
Hollywood elitists critique movies different than normal folks. When a movie has a bad ending but everything else, especially the elitist cast (Brad Pit, etc) deliver a "brave" or superb character, then the bad ending isn't a bad ending. It somehow transcends the whole good/bad universe and underscores all of the other elements of the message that the movie is attempting to reveal. So, if you don't like the ending, it's probably that you are normal, and not elite, therefore it's not a like/dislike thing, you just don't get it.
This is one of those movies. Lots of money spent on big names and great locations, yada, yada, yada. Oh, and of course, there's the required homosexual bit part included for your entertainment enjoyment as well. Which would not have been where it was and when it was historically. You might as well power those WWII fighter planes with Chevy 350 V8 engines for some reason. Oh, but they wouldn't do THAT because it would break character for realism.
The plot found yet another way to to send another shot at the good old American way and the allied military.
If you're normal, you won't like this movie. If you are an elitist and know better than normal people, then this movie is right up your ally.
Sad, sad.
