Review of Allied (2016) by Julie T — 29 Aug 2017
The premise for "Allied" was really good, and going in I thought there was no way this movie could be bad. By the end, I still stuck with that belief, as I didn't think the movie was terrible, but it didn't live up to the expectations I set for it, and wasn't the amazing movie I was expecting.
The acting was easily the best part about this movie, Brad Pitt (Max Vatan) was stellar as the main character in this film, as well as Marion Cotillard (Marianne Beausejour), who gelled really well together, and made the movie really mesh together.
As for the plot: the trailer spoils the whole thing. It doesn't tell you the ending, however, the biggest twist and most interesting turn of events that happens in the whole movie, is already told to you by the trailer.
It could have dropped some hints as to what might have happened, but the trailer just blatantly ruins that twist, and when it happens in the movie, the whole moment is ruined. While there were quite a few scenes that were pretty entertaining, the overall pacing can get a little slow at times, and made the movie less enjoyable than it could've been.
All in all, "Allied" isn't necessarily wasted potential, but definitely could have been a LOT better with the great acting it had, and the pretty intelligent plot, however, "Allied" is only worth watching if you're bored.
