Review of Allied (2016) by Yash B — 04 Dec 2017
Tries for Casablanca, ends up being casa-bland-ca. Allied has a few respectable moments but it is ultimately ruined by ridiculous CGI and a screenplay that lacks heart and originality. Robert Zemeckis is a talented filmmaker but he had no business directing a film that intended to be a love letter to the golden age of cinema.
His approach is all wrong and his aesthetic does not lend itself to this kind of material. Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard both sleepwalk through their performances probably because the film put them to sleep.
Yes, Allied is boring. An underwhelming, oversimplified spy yawn-a-thon that goes through the motions of conventional Hollywood cinema for two hour and change before eventually going out with a whimper.
The film had no beginning, middle, or end, just a collection of uninspired scenes centered around two very pretty people.
