Review of Allied (2016) by Lee W — 08 Nov 2017
This film is aiming to be one of those old Hollywood wartime romance movies and to some extent it succeeds but it is a little disjointed and so doesn't entirely work as a whole. The first half plods along fairly nicely as 2 beautiful people are forced together in a fake marriage as cover for the work they are doing to undermine the Nazi regime during the Second World War.
At this point the film is fairly average, the story is ok and the locations are a little distracting as everything looks a little too perfect and polished. However, the second half of the movie takes the film up to a whole new level as one half of the onscreen couple is suspected of being a German spy and so there is a very tense race against time as the other desperately searches for evidence to the contrary as their once fake marriage has evolved into something more.
