Review of All the Real Girls (2003) by Sean F — 08 Jun 2007
David Gordon Green is the real deal- here he crafts a movie with real emotional power, that simply tells the story of two people who fall in love because they like each other. The movie wisely doesn't have much of a plot- it's almost all character and situation.
The film tells the story of Paul and Noel, two young people who have just started dating. She's a virgin, and is waiting for the right guy. He's got dozens of notches in his belt, but likes her enough to respect her innocence. Both of them are of limited intelligence, and their dialogue is absolutely authentic to their characters, and their situation.
The movie has a beautiful look to it and a lot of near-perfect performances. All the Real Girls is The Last Picture Show of its time.
