Review of All the Real Girls (2003) by Hannibal O — 20 Jul 2007
David Gordon Green is definitely someone to watch for in the future. A solid character study that realistically portrays the complexities of a relationship between a playboy and a young virgin in small town North Carolina.
Tim Orr's cinematography beautifully captures the tone of the story and his style evokes a natural 1970s feel (lots of warm colors and natural lighting). I don't know how much improvisation the actors performed (I suspect a lot), but their performances were perfect and they keep you glued to the screen from beginning to end.
You care a lot about these characters and there were a number of scenes that made me smile at how well the director executed his scenes and wrote them. Awesome music as well. The score reminded me of Godspeed You Black Emperor and it perfectly fit the film's tone.
