Review of All the Real Girls (2003) by Albert P — 15 Jul 2008
Though unlikely -- how was the Deschanel character able to afford boarding school or even hear about it? -- I found this movie full of a love 'i could believe in'. It was chock full of actors from Lars and Real Girl, who all, I felt, gave a better performance here. This also perked me up to Zooey Deschanel, who I've only seen play blank-faced, cute/pretty roles in other movies (Tin Man, The Happening). In here she jokes and cries and gives speeches and just seems achingly needful of her lover, who feels and acts the same way. Bien hecho, hombre!
If you're looking for a thoughtful romantic comedy -- there, I've given it a genre -- here is your pasta with pesto.
