Review of All the Real Girls (2003) by Zac T — 14 Aug 2008
David Gordon Green and his acclaimed Retarded Hillbilly Players Co. proudly present their latest feature film!
As a rule, I don't think strong characterization is essential or even desirable in cinema. Green, though, tells such simple stories and lets his characters loom so large that it really is vital for him to nail it down - and he just doesn't deliver. This is the third film of his I've seen and he simply can't write a character that doesn't behave as if he/she is severely autistic - it's a really big problem and it comporimises everything he wants to accomplish here.
