Review of All the Real Girls (2003) by Hardy H — 05 May 2009
I had high hopes for this piece, but I ended up only liking it, not loving it.
Perhaps it will grow on me with time, but after the first viewing it is kind of a hit and miss. there are certain parts that's great, others mediocre. cinematography and performances are good, but I am not a fan of Danny Mcbride's type character that he plays in pretty much every single movie he's in.
Paul Schneider's performance is generally great again, although it did seem a bit too strange and forced at a few occasions (almost made him unbelievable as town's romeo).
Pacing slightly too slow for my personal taste, the sleepy town atmosphere definitely contribute to that too. I think the part I like the most is the exploration of how our lives can be greatly affected by every decision and mistake we make, and that while emotion and affection could last a life time, relationships can be so fragile.
