Review of All the Pretty Horses (2000) by Trev B — 24 Oct 2009
I watched this, and the only complaint I had was that it seemed to move a lot more rapidly than the book. sure enough, when I look it up online, I find that the original cut was almost 4 hours long. this is a good movie as-is, but i'd bet that director's cut is excellent.
I love the review reading, "A boy's adventure story that has mistaken itself for an epic." This seems to be intended as a criticism, but that's exactly the premise of the story: two kids who want to be cowboys, but are born just at the time when the cowboy life is dying out in America, so they head to Mexico, where there's still a life for them, but it's a life that's a little bigger and more masculine and more violent than they are prepared for.
