Review of All the President's Men (1976) by Chris B — 12 Jan 2012

This is #77 on The American Film Institute's Top 100 Films of all Time list but even though there is nothing "bad" per say, I wasn't engaged and the deliberate pacing of the film just didn't pull me in to the story.

The acting is great and Hoffman and Redford give great and nuanced performances (Robert Redford is a personal favorite) as the duo researching the conspiracy. The film's running time and pacing however just bored the life out of me and that's hard to do as I've watched films going nearly 6 hours (Bergman's "Fanny and Alexander) but kept my attention every second of the film.

Either the complex stories or stunning visuals pull me in but even though everything was "good" in "All the President's Men", it wasn't my cup of tea and is one of my least favorite films on AFI's list.

I respect the fact that this film came out only two years after the scandal went public but it's a film I would only recommend to a select few despite it's critical success.
