To see Ridley Scott take on a kidnapping drama set in the 1970's makes all kind of sense. He manages to perfectly extract the amazing beauty that lies as much in the materialistic details of cars and clothes as he does in using the eras inconveniant ways of communicating (ordinary mail, printed newspapers, telephone booths) to add to the movies thrilling theme.

Don't be surprised if you after watching the movie still hear the deafning loudness of ringing telephones in the back of your head. The acting were well made from everyone involved, yes, even from Mark Wahlberg, whos character Ridley applied a low profile to when needed.

I never felt he was in the way of the great performance of Michelle Williams, whos job as the emotionally distraught mother, had arguably the more difficult job of the two. Most credit though goes where it's due, to Christopher Plummer, a real superhero displaying his experience as an actor and work ethic as a professional, saving the movie from never being released at all.

And because of that, I think we owe it to Ridley, Plummer, Williams and everyone else involved in making this movie to go see it.
