Review of All the King's Men (2006) by Ernie M — 28 Jul 2008
No-one will have heard of this despite the starry cast of Sean Penn, Anthony Hopkins, Kate Winslet & Jude Law and a whole host of Oscar-winning filmmakers. The story is sluggish and difficult to follow for people like me but something keeps you watching.
James Horner's score helps fuse things together but things like Law's poor American accent distract. However, there are some sparkling performances from Penn (a given) and Hopkins (a given) to just about keep you entertained throughout and the lighting, production design and costumes are flawless.
Another one of those 'somewhere in here is a truly great film that falls short' movies.
