Review of All the King's Men (2006) by Evan B — 10 Feb 2008
Here's a problem with all star casts - either one star stands out, or none do. In this, Sean Penn rules the movie and rightfully so, as he transforms into the Willie Stark/Huey Long character so convincingly that the viewer can't look away.
But in the fifty percent of the movie that he's not on screen, Jude Law and everyone else attempt and fail at constructing a cohesive and intelligent plot. What could have been an effective twist and turn story turns into nothing more than a time for the viewer to put in a few winks before Sean Penn's Louisiana accent wakes them up.
