Review of All the King's Men (1949) by Greg G — 08 Feb 2008
The great cast is the only thing that kept me watching this movie. Sean Penn's performance was particularly noteworthy.
There were a number of problems with the movie itself. My biggest issue was one of verisimilitude: The movie took place 30 years too late (It should have been set in the 20s), and a lot of the timeline simply didn't make sense. This change was completely unnecessary.
In the beginning of the movie I enjoyed the parallels with Huey Long, and as it progressed I found myself wishing that they'd done a straight biopic of him, something original and effective.
