Review of All the King's Men (1949) by Emma L — 12 Feb 2008
This has an interesting story and some good performances from its well-known cast, but somehow the sum of the parts is less than than the individual elements. The film never seems to make up its mind about what it wants to be - love story, political biography, comment on the nature of politics, slow reveal of interconnecting past events.
While this could have worked in the film's favour, it actually serves to frgament the story and leave the audience somewhat bemused by what is going on.
