Review of All the King's Men (1949) by Jummi H — 19 Aug 2009
The director of this movie Steven Zaillian is more knowns as a writer. He's been involved with bunch of great movies but I wasn't familliar with his pas directing works. To me the writer of Schindler's List, one of my personal all time favourite movies, might have something up in sih sleeve.
The film is set in the 1950's, in Louisiana, where a smart populist hick Willie Stark is elected governor with the support of the lower social classes.
This is a great film with an allstar cast. Sean Penn is magnificient and truly captivating as Willie Stark. Interestingnly I usually don't like Jude Law (except in Enemy At The Gates) but in this one he's great as an actor an fits perfectly as the narrator of the movie. James Horner's music is typical with nuances of his past movie scores.
Overall I'd recomend this to people interested in political and historical movies. Though this one really needs your full attention to be appreciated.
