Review of All That Jazz (1979) by Paul J — 28 Oct 2010
There really isn't any other musical like this. The genius that is Bob Fosse made a autobiographical musical that illustrates his death. Sick and dying in the hospital has never been this much fun.
Scheider is perfectly cast and the editing style is astonishingly fresh and exciting. Yes, the film is depressing but somehow the substance transcends any emotional unpleasantness. Bottom line: it's a one-of-a-kind musical extravaganza that illuminates while also criticizes the music and film business.
