Review of All Star Superman (2011) by Alexander Z — 27 Mar 2011
What an odd movie. I've read the series, and I liked it, but the movie retains the feel of episodic structure. Every fifteen minutes a new plot starts, just as if you were reading a number of standalone comics in a row.
Works in writing, not so well in film. Then there's the cheesiness. It's through the roof. Cosmic anvils, Jimmy Olsen in drag, objects that weigh millions of tons being placed on regular floors, evil suns.
..it just goes on like this. The entire concept is an interesting one, and falls far outside of the canon Superman mythos, but perhaps they should have spent more time in expanding and editing.
