Review of All Quiet on the Western Front (2022) by Pyrate — 02 Nov 2022
First of all, it is shot gorgeously. War never looked so bleak, yet tragically beautiful. There's no heroism, no pride, no honor or duty here. Only death and self-centered ambitious of men that should've known better.
The acting raises to the occasion and a certain scene when our main character tries to shut the gurgle of a dying enemy is especially punching. One of the best films that released this year or the ones I've seen so far, anyway.
Side note: I watched the movie after playing the campaign of the new COD game and, I know I shouldn't say it, but the stark difference of how war is portrayed in both of these artworks is really telling on how we've come to see war as a fun past-time.
