Review of All Quiet on the Western Front (1930) by Nikolai E — 10 Feb 2008
Thoroughly astonishing. The acting, script, cinematography, structure, practically everything about the film is ahead of its time. The only thing that doesn't quite hold up, unfortunately, is the soundtrack.
Although many actual explosions were recorded so the effects would seem accurate, the technology wasn't quite up to the task. Still one of the greatest war films of all time.
