Review of All Quiet on the Western Front (1930) by Jack G — 13 Jun 2009
Masterful work. Amazing that this was done in 1930, 12 years after the war. One of the all-time best war films I've seen. It's artistic merit is astounding and the film feels highly authentic. From the scenery to camerawork to story to editing.
.. Scenes such as the ground attack with bombs and machine guns in every direction, the blinding of the soldier, the young soldier dying in the hospital, the disillusioned Paul's pacifist speech and the breathtaking end scene are sure to stay with you for a long time.
The characters invite strong empathy and the themes are timeless. Truly a classic.
