Review of All Quiet on the Western Front (1930) by Enrique T — 05 Mar 2013
All Quiet on the Western Front is probably the most brilliant anti-war film ever made. A very controversial film back then, due to its portrayal of the German soldiers. This film makes a powerful impact due to its intense war violence.
Lew Ayers is brilliant as Paul Baumer, a high school student who joins the German Army and is excited at first, but quickly realize the brutality of war. There are many sad, heartfelt scenes in this film, as you really care about these well-developed characters.
The ending is shocking! This film is very thought-provoking, and will stick in your head for a long time.
