Review of All My Friends Hate Me (2022) by Jluis_001 — 19 Mar 2022
The sense of discomfort this film employs is as much for the character as it is for the viewers, in that it is quite effective, but I also think that the plot pushes the sense of social anxiety too far, especially in terms of how far it stops feeling believable and moves into more hesitant territory.
I mention this because considering how much the other characters incite and insist on the anxiety and confusion of the situation with the main character, I even went so far as to say, ''At what point do you tell them to go **** themselves?''
All My Friends Hate Me works as a perfect case of reconnecting with friends you haven't really had much contact with in years, but yet you think you'll be able to restart everything exactly where you left off. But it's clear that's not how things function in this story.
This is a dark comedy with elements that invite horror, more than anything because of the paranoia element involved.
I think a better pace would've helped it a lot, because the lack of variety in its tone causes some scenes to feel a bit boring and I really think it needed more bite, because if you're already being inconvenient and incisive, then go for it all, don't stay half way.
