The movie info is wrong on a couple of points. The ghosts have been there for decades and it was Zel's grandmother who trapped them, not the light in the woods. If you watch to the end you'll see Zel unplug the light and it leads you to believe she planned it all along so she could have her life back.
A 'don't want to lose you but I wish you would go' kind of thing.
