Review of All Is Lost (2013) by Tom T — 11 Sep 2014
If you think ALL films need a dialogue in order to be above average, then think again because this one was engaging, intense and frankly unforgettable! Robert Redford is the only cast member as a man fighting against nature to survive.
Nature being the open sea. He is sailing along the Indian Ocean aboard the Virginia Jean, a small boat when his boat has collided with a wayward shipping container which has ripped a hole in the hull.
He repairs the hull but a tropical storm is about to hit and the film continues from there. From the start to the end this film will engage you and make you thankful that you are not in his shoes! For this type of movie the director and actor are crucial and J.
C. Chandor creates a moving and powerful depiction of a man in a dire situation that resonates with us all. It is one of the best survival films made although in my humble opinion GRAVITY still remains at the top but this one certainly has enough merit and is compelling from the opening scene to the incredible ending.
Never lose hope, and try, try, until you have exhausted all possibilities. Bravo to Robert Redford and the crew of All is Lost, available in HD on Netflix instant streaming!
