Review of All in Good Time (2012) by Angela T — 16 May 2012
A charming film and treated as a fairly light comedy drama, All in Good Time is the story of a young British Indian couple going through the adjustments of early married life under the roof of the boy's family and dealing with some of the indian cultural traditions.
The film follows in the steps of East is East (same writer) or Bend it like Beckham and is directed by Nigel Cole who also directed Calendar Girls and Made in Dagenham. Although the film feels stereotyped sometimes, it weaves nicely drama and comedy, smiles, laughs and tension and is supported by very good performances from the young naive couple, Reece Ritchie and the excellent and beautiful Amara Karan.
Conflicted by the respect of parents and tradition and their need for autonomy, we experience the weight of cultural traditions but also the support system of the community, and the soft and unspoken strength of women.
The film has some poignant and serious moments. The characters could have been explored in more depth but has enough to be meaningful.
