Review of All Good Things (2010) by David F — 07 May 2011
This is a film with a really interesting premise. This is a premise that, if put in the right hands, could make a compelling film. Unfortunately, Jarecki wasn't the right person. The film just ends up being alarmingly (and frustratingly) cliched, despite great performances and atmosphere.
Gosling plays his character expertly; a character that appears to be more hollow than truly evil. Way better than the film deserves. Dunst was great as well, playing the emotional queues just right. The film is just a frenetic and incoherent mix of story and mood.
In the end, this isn't nearly as good as it wants to be, or could have been. Just not that good in the end, honestly.
