The whole point of the movie was to find out what happened to his missing love, Katherine, which throughout the movie it implies that David kills her. Towards the end of the movie we find out the director is against David Marks and makes him look guilty by having his father open the trunk of his car.

Also, when we find David on trial we see that he leaves out some truth about what he knows, or rather maybe things he doesn't know. All in all this movie is a grand disappointment for those of you interested in a satisfying ending.
