While it is supposed to tell a shocking and mysterious story about a missing person and the events prior to her disappearance, it departs from the main storyline into a cliched and uneventful realm, where Ryan Gosling's performance is rather frustrating and utterly dull.
The mystery isn't resolved, and the movies critical appeal goes down in flames with all the unanswered questions.
