Review of All Dogs Go to Heaven (1989) by Joshua R — 05 Oct 2008
You have to wonder if don bluth got drunk every night before he approved the animation in his movies. seriously. all these characters might as well be liquid. they seem to constantly be in motion. and as weird as it is, it's what makes don bluth's movies so interesting to watch.
there's a certain madness of reality that can't be comprehended until watching one of these movies. all dogs go to heaven feels way more epic than it actually is, and it's largely the reason why it succeeds.
but it's also got characters that find decent reasons to be alive and accept the fact that you have to be a morally good person in this mad mad mad mad world bluth has put them into. it's got a lot of layers and I find that very appealing.
one of my all time favs.
