Review of All Dogs Go to Heaven (1989) by Adam F — 19 Mar 2013
"All Dogs Go to Heaven" is a beautiful animated film that doesn't talk down to children. It's got drinking, smoking, gambling and real tension when it comes to whether characters will actually make it out alive.
The characters are flawed (leaving room for character development and growth) but realistic, the plot is original and although it may be too intense for little children, adults and slightly older kids won't be bored watching it.
It tries too hard to imitate the Disney formula with some songs thrown in here and there (which are not as great as the memorable ones from Disney) but when it's doing it's own thing, it's very enjoyable and the flaws are minor.
