Review of All Dogs Go to Heaven (1989) by Louis R — 02 Aug 2010
A wonderful movie for children and adaults alike. A tail (bad pun, please excuse me) of a condog (sorry, I did it again) with a heart of gold. He goes through one of the most interesting and arguably best in animation character arcs ever.
He is betrayed, dies, comes back, goes for vengence, ends up... well I can't tell you the ending but it is wonderful and wraps up the movie beautifully. Despite what others may say, I find the characters charming and relatable and the animation is absolutley wonderful.
While the movie doesn't base it's plot around comedy, it has a few funny jokes here and there, like most animated movies, and they may seem unimportant but they'll keep the viewers attatched, young and old.
My only negative comment about the movie is the musical pieces are, well, bad. I usually skip through those parts when watching it, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Also, some of the material might be a bit heavy for the younger crowd, but most kids nowadays know what death is at a young age, and the idea of Heaven, whether they believe it or not, could make life seem a little less bleak.
Final line, one of the best animated movies ever and definitley worth watching no matter how old you are.
