Review of All Dogs Go to Heaven (1989) by Zachary R — 01 Mar 2013
This is a good children's movie for whoever has loved dogs. This film was my very first animated film and I couldn't wait to watch it every time. This film is basically about a German Shepard dog named Charlie Barkin who escapes from a dog pound (which hilariously enough is made out to look like a prison) with some help from his weinerdog friend Itchy Itchaford.
Once Charlie is out he goes to his old place of business where his partner Carface Cruthers runs the joint. This doesn't set the mood well with Carface as he put Charlie in dog pound in the first place as a set up.
So, Carface sets up a trap for Charlie, so that he can kill him. Carface runs down Charlie with a car which then sends Charlie to heaven. Charlie then realizes that it was Carface that killed him and he goes into a fury to have revenge on him.
The Whippet Angel does the best to calm him down to tell him that heaven isn't that bad of a place and she shows Charlie proof that he is dead. The Whippet Angel shows Charlie a watch that connects to his life(Heaven is full of watches and clocks that represent life to an interesting idea.
) Charlie then tricks the Whippet Angel and steals the watch to rewind it and escape from heaven, which in many ways damns Charlie's soul. Once Charlie is back among the living, he tells Itchy that he's still alive which freaks him out; but once he calms Itchy down they set out to ruin Carface.
Charlie and Itchy discover how Carface has made all his money: it is through a young girl named Anne-Marie who can talk to the animals and understand them. Charlie takes Anne-Marie with him to uses against Carface to make his own business and get rich while lying to Anne-Marie by saying he would help her find a family since she is an orphan.
Meanwhile Charlie is having dreams of the devil and hell for what he did disobeying Heavens rules and is worried also amongst the same time Carface discovers that Charlie is alive and that he took Anne-Marie, what will happen in the end for Charlie? You'll have to see the movie! Overall with great animation, acting, story and plot with tons of deeds and religion, this is not a bad movie to show the family.
A solid 10 out of 10.
