Review of All About Eve (1950) by Ricardo O — 04 Oct 2009
"Fasten your seat belts, it's going to be a bumpy night!".
One of the greatest scripts to ever be written. It is full of great dialogue including the classic line above. It is nicely photographed, incredibly acted out by it's cast and Joseph L. Mankiewicz's direction is sublime. Although it did win 6 Oscars including Best Picture, imo it is not as strong as Billy Wilder's Sunset Blvd., which to me probably should have won Best Picture. Either way you can't deny how great both Betty Davis and Anne Baxter are in there roles. Each give the performances of their lives. Davis plays the aging actress to a tee and Baxter plays one of the greatest villains in the history of cinema. Doesn't make sense that either of these great actress nor Gloria Swanson in Sunset Blvd. won for Best Actress that year. It makes absolutely no sense. This is a fi every movie lover should watch. 'Tis essential. 10/10.
