Review of All About Eve (1950) by Matthew L — 12 Apr 2010
I really enjoyed this film. it had many many many amazing acting performances by all the leads. as such it is the only film to have gotten three Best Actress nominations (although it won none of them which is a mistake in my opinion).
although I am glad that George Sanders won Best Supporting Actor for his role as the manipulative Addison De Witt. he did very well. I also like the great screenplay. "fasten your seat belts It's gonna be a bumpy night".
that is just brilliant. I also really like the character of Eve. I love how her ultimate goals slowly are revealed. she at first appears to be this sweet girl who is simply a large fan of Margo Channing.
then she slowly starts sliding into Margo's positions and eventually usurps her completely leaving Margo this washed out has been. she earns her spot on AFI's list of top 50 greatest villains.
but the thing that I like best is that at the end Eve meets another girl who is apparently a big fan of hers, and the cycle continues. that's great. Final Verdict: Close Call. it is pretty much tied with Sunset Boulevard.
