Review of All About Eve (1950) by Paul N — 10 May 2011
Don't even get me started on the screenplay for this film. I'm at a loss of words at how witty, biting, snide, intelligent, and downright rude the script is. The only films that even compare to this in writing is the Marx Bros pictures.
Enough of the stunningly brilliant writing, on to the acting. This is one of those movies were every actor and actress was giving one of the best performances of their lives. Bette Davis plays the part of the jealous aging actor Margo Channing beautifully, and not to mention the intelligent remarks by Sanders.
Sometimes classic films seem to be overrated, due to the sheer cultural impact at the time possibly. So sometimes the movies you hear about for a while then finally see turn out not to be everything you thought it would be.
Trust me, All About Eve is nowhere close to that department.
