Review of All About Eve (1950) by David V — 20 Dec 2011
The dialogue is sex for my ears. This is one of those films I can just watch over and over, the performances are as gripping as any I have ever seen. Davis always is a chameleon who hides behind her own eyes.
As with the other roles where she shines, this performance from her is full of echoes of the complicated woman she really was. Anne Baxter comes close to stealing the show with her own feverish complexities.
This is a fabulous study of personalities, dreams, and Hollywood. It is a very overused adage to describe a overwhelming film, but they just do not make them like this anymore.
