Review of All About Eve (1950) by Myron A — 19 Feb 2014
This film is impeccably written. It's been a long while since I've been as consistently smitten with a film's dialogue as I am with All About Eve. It runs over two hours long, and yet every scene is essential and holds your attention.
Also, so much sass. So many burns and clapbacks excellently delivered by Bette Davis. I loved all the cynicism of her character - enhanced by the satire of the script. This is my first time seeing Bette Davis on screen, and I was blown away by her charisma.
In fact, the entire cast really brought their A-game. Talent, age, and their relationship with obsolescence are themes I don't often see represented in film. It's nice to see that all play out, and in a film that passes the Bechdel test too! <3.
