Review of Alive (1993) by Justin Y — 22 Jun 2009
Alright first, I know one or two people who have real problems with BOTH plane crashes and cannibalism (you know who you are) so naturally I understand your aversion to this film and the book on which it is based.
Myself? I only really have a problem with the whole planes crashing to the ground thing (cannibalism is actually sort of fascinating really). Anyway, this movie is enjoyable and overall a good film. There are one or two moments that I think would feel overly sentimental/melodramatic were it not for the setting and survivalist context under which they occur.
For what it's worth the cannibalism is done in a strikingly tasteful manner...okay that was an unintentional and unfortunate choice of words but you take my point. Alive is two hours well spent.
