In short, the critics are wrong about this movie. In addition to action and amazing vfx, it has heart. It has a story that is engaging beginning to end, even on repeat viewings. Alita comes across as very human.
Much more so than certain other protagonists of recent months. Even though she is mostly cybernetic, she is still relatable, which is important for a well written protagonist. At no point was I bored and ready for the movie to end.
Hopefully a second part will follow.
